Prayers for the Holy Souls
Welcome to our community dedicated to praying for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, also known as the Church Suffering. The purpose of this website is to provide a place for us, the Church Militant, to offer our prayers and sacrifices for those who are being purified before entering the eternal joy of Heaven. They are in desperate need of our prayers, as they can no longer pray for themselves.
The Purpose of Purgatory
The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines Purgatory as a final purification for those who “die in God’s grace and friendship, but imperfectly purified” (CCC 1030). These souls, though certain of their eternal salvation, must undergo a process of purification to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven. This purification is not a form of punishment, but a transformative process that perfects the soul, preparing it to stand in the presence of God.
For a soul in purgatory, time is not experienced as we know it. It is a state of being, where the intense longing for God is both a source of suffering and the very force that propels the soul towards Him. The pain of Purgatory is the sorrow of being separated from God, and it is here that our prayers can offer immense relief.

Once released from Purgatory, these souls become part of the Church Triumphant, the saints in Heaven who can now intercede for us.
The Communion of Saints
The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains that the Church is a “communion of saints” that includes all the faithful on Earth, those in Purgatory, and the saints in Heaven (CCC 954-958). This is the foundation of our spiritual solidarity.
The Church Militant
This is us, the faithful on Earth, still fighting the good fight and striving for holiness. We are called the “militant” because we are engaged in a spiritual battle against sin and evil.
The Church Suffering
These are the Holy Souls in Purgatory, who are being purified before entering Heaven. They can no longer help themselves, but they are members of the Body of Christ and can be helped by our prayers.
The Church Triumphant
These are the Saints in Heaven, who have finished their earthly journey and are united with God. They intercede for us and are our models of holiness.

Saint Gertrude Prayer
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
Deliverance Prayer
Lord Jesus, by Your grace, by Your goodness, by Your mercy, deliver the souls in purgatory.
Prayer for the Nearest Soul
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of Thy servants departed the remission of all their sins, that by pious supplications they may obtain the pardon which they have always desired. Amen.
Eternal Rest Prayer
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Prayer of Mercy
O merciful Jesus, grant to the souls in purgatory the grace to be released from their suffering. Pour upon them the cleansing waters of Your precious Blood and lead them into the Kingdom of Heaven. Amen.
The Chaplet of Saint Gertrude
Praying the Chaplet of Saint Gertrude is believed to release 50,000 souls from Purgatory each time it is said.
